Privacy Policy

Pending final legal review. This page accurately describes what The Sell Point's systems collect today and our real company/Grievance Officer identity. One section (data retention periods) still needs a business decision before this is our final, binding policy.

Who this covers

This policy covers thesellpoint.com and the account you use to both buy from us and sell devices to us — one account, one identity, covers both sides.

What we collect

Account details: name, email address, phone number, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text).

Phone verification: a one-time code sent to your phone number to confirm it's really yours before checkout or a pickup handover. The code itself is hashed and expires after a short window; we never log it in plain text.

Addresses: delivery addresses for orders, and pickup/drop-off addresses for devices you sell us.

If you sell a device to us: the device's brand, model, and condition answers you give us; its IMEI (used only to detect duplicate submissions and for our own inspection records — never shown in ordinary account screens); and photos you upload of the device and, where required for identity verification, a photo ID. ID-proof photos are stored in a private, access-controlled location and are never public — only authorized staff can retrieve one, and only for as long as needed to complete your payout.

Payments: we never see or store your card, UPI, or net-banking details. Payments are processed directly by Razorpay; we retain only the transaction result (amount, status, an order reference) needed to confirm your order or refund.

Cookies: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a cache-identification cookie that helps pages load faster. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Why we collect it

To create and secure your account; to fulfil orders and buyback payouts; to verify your identity where a device purchase requires it; to send order, quote, and payout updates; and to meet our own legal and tax record-keeping obligations.

Who we share it with

Only the processors needed to run the service: Razorpay (payments), [SMS/OTP provider name] (phone verification), [email provider name] (order and account emails), and our cloud storage provider (photo and document storage). We do not sell personal data to anyone, for any reason.

How long we keep it

Your rights
